Beyond Business as Usual Conference 2011 The conference featured a morning panel of three leaders in the social enterprise sector. Kate Emery, CEO of reSET & Walker Systems Support; Robert Egger, Founder and President of DC Central Kitchen; and Cary Wheaton, Executive Director of Billings Forge Community Works answered questions from the moderator, Dan Haar Business Editor Hartford Courant, and the audience regarding social enterprise. The conference continued with three concurrent workshops regarding social enterprise:
Robert Egger, Founder and President of DC Central Kitchen was the keynote speaker. His powerful speech ended with a standing ovation by the audience. Egger also received the 2011 reSET Social Enterprise Innovator Award and he assisted Kate Emery in announcing reSET’s Social Entrepreneur Award winners. The top winner at this year’s conference was GG2G, a company owned by Dayan Moore of Milford and Phyllis Fryzel of Wilton. The company makes handbags and other accessories out of salvaged billboard and restaurant seating materials.
